Train on Thursday: Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen

I travel with public transport on regular base. One of my favourite past times when in bus or train besides reading is checking out what other people read. I usually look these books up (especially when someone is so hooked they don't notice me checking them out) to see if they would be something for me. In this weekly I will introduce you to the books I spotted while travelling.
If you want to join in this weekly feel free to write your own post on the books you spot. That can be anywhere, in the park, on the street, in line at the book store / library. There is a linky in the bottom to link up your post or you can leave a comment!

When Elizabeth Bennet first meets eligible bachelor Fitzwilliam Darcy, she thinks him arrogant and conceited, while he struggles to remain indifferent to her good looks and lively mind. When she later discovers that Darcy has involved himself in the troubled relationship between his friend Bingley and her beloved sister Jane, she is determined to dislike him more than ever.

I saw the movie... but never read the book. I guess I should read it at some point but I am scared of these so called classics because I usually end up not liking them. Now I know a lot of you did read it and I am curious why I should read it like yesterday?

I highly recommend reading it! My husband just finished it and loved it (his first Austen was Sense and Sensibility, which he reviewed for my blog at the end of May). As for Pride and Prejudice, I discussed some of my reasons for liking it here: http://misfortuneofknowing.wordpress.com/2013/01/28/why-jane-austen-appeals-to-girls-and-boys-who-dont-just-want-a-boyfriend/ (I hope you don't mind links in your comments!)

As for the movies, which one did you see? My favorite is the series from the mid-1990s with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.

Relevant links are always welcome :) great piece.

I will stuff this on my TBR because I cannot stand up to Jennifer telling me I need to read. Might grab you along for a buddy read Mel?

And I saw the 2005 one with Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen.

Great idea! Sadly I only ever see people reading law books at university, which wouldn't be much fun to link up
