Dewey's 24 Hour #Readathon April 2015!

Read-a-thon!! Read-a-thon.. How weird is it I get all excited of staying up a night to read. I mean, I am an adult I can stay up every night to read. I guess the magic of reading at the same time with around 1600 other people adds a lot to the excitement.

My read-a-thon is going to be a bit weird. We start at 2 pm here which is a pretty okay time. But at 4.30 the Flower Parade is going trough my hometown. This is a bit of a tradition to watch this with the family and usually it is on the third Saturday of April so I never thought it would mess up my read-a-thon plans. BUT... they decided to move it as this Monday it is Kingsday which means a lot of people have long weekends or even holiday and will decide to come for a short holiday. When I found out about the date change I got upset. With the parade starting at 4.30 (if you are lucky as it is always running late which easily happens with the long distance they have to go) it would mean I would lose the first 5 hours of my read-a-thon to being social and watching the parade. I solved this by informing my family about the read-a-thon and telling them I would be reading as long as the parade is not there. I hope to be home around 9 pm.

There are two fun parts in preparing for the read-a-thon.... Books and Snacks.
I am still reading Church of Marvels by Leslie Perry while I am writing this post but am going to try and finish that one up before 2 pm. My read-a-thon book pile can be found on my Dewey Read-a-Thon Goodreads shelf.
I got a few paper books ready and a few ebooks. As I know I will be walking a fair bit on Saturday afternoon from and too transtations I got Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman as audiobook.
As I noticed in my previous read-a-thons it gets harder to read the longer you are doing it so I decided for a few Dutch children books for the last hours.

Obviously I got enough snacks to gain a few pounds throughout the night and I will keep you posted about it on Twitter where I will probably spend way to much time having fun on the hashtags #Readathon, #Dewey, #MiniChallenge, #RahRahReadathon

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I am in the Netherlands. Will be traveling around by train today so hope to share some pictures from my exciting readathon travels.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Horrorstör I think
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Popcorn!!!!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I was born close to Keukenhof and the best known flower area ij the Netherlands. Today is flower parade and I will be watchreading it.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
This is the 5th time I am participating. I decided to end with a few Dutch books and see if I can manage to continue reading a bit longer and still register what I am reading.

Have fun, Ciska. What a great selection of books! I'll also be reading The Strange Library. Hope you have fun with your family AND get to read a lot.

I think that sounds like a good compromise for the parade -- squeeze in some reading and also spend time with family. It's nearly 7 a.m. here which always seems like a good starting point for a Readathon. But I also like the idea of starting in the afternoon and getting to come back near the end -- I'm almost never up early enough to do that. Happy readathon!
