Train on Thursday: Hannibal Rising, Thomas Harris

I travel with public transport on a regular base. I always love to check out what other people read while traveling. When I get a chance I take a look if their book would be something for me.
This week the woman was in doubt if she was going to buy the book or not on the station. She kept returning to it obviously intrigued but not sure enough to just get it. The book she was eying?

Hannibal ontwaakt Thomas Harris coverHe is one of the most haunting characters in all of literature. At last the evolution of his evil is revealed.
Hannibal Lecter emerges from the nightmare of the Eastern Front, a boy in the snow, mute, with a chain around his neck.
He seems utterly alone, but he has brought his demons with him.
Hannibal’s uncle, a noted painter, finds him in a Soviet orphanage and brings him to France, where Hannibal will live with his uncle and his uncle’s beautiful and exotic wife, Lady Murasaki.
Lady Murasaki helps Hannibal to heal. With her help he flourishes, becoming the youngest person ever admitted to medical school in France.
But Hannibal’s demons visit him and torment him. When he is old enough, he visits them in turn.
He discovers he has gifts beyond the academic, and in that epiphany, Hannibal Lecter becomes death’s prodigy.

I saw the movie on this one, does that count?
No serious... yes I guess I would read the Hannibal books I don't really see a reason why not. Still I never got them so in my head there are books more appealing than this. I did see all the movies and I do find it an interesting story. Therefore I can understand the doubt the woman in the bookstore was showing.
Reviews are all over the place but the average on GR is 3.31 out of 5 which is below average so it is obviously not a real charmer this book. Did you read the Hannibal Lecter books?
