Top Ten Tuesday: Best Sequels ever

top ten button
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly hosted by The Broke and Bookish. Every week the girls from the Broke and
Bookish come up with a subject and I will try to find 10 results combined with that weeks topic.

This weeks topic is best sequels ever. I am not so great with series. If I am engaged to a book I hate if I have to wait. Still as you all know sometimes a stand-alone change in series or a series is so interesting even I cannot run away from it. I might cheat a bit in this top 10 though and just pick the best book in a series that is not the first one.

1. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter by J.K Rowling)
I love the tumble in the dark this book makes in the series, slowly preparing you that Harry and the rest are growing up and getting ready for more scary stuff.

2. Dark Fire (Matthew Shardlake by C.J. Sansom)
I had a problem getting into the first book. This series is heavy on history and you really need to catch up on the vibe before you get pulled in. The first book set the atmosphere and with the second I was finally able to really enjoy it.

3. Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness)
I loved a Discovery of Witches and was a bit scared when the second book came out. But it takes such a different path that it could not be compared to the first book. (and now I cannot wait for the last one)

4. Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris)
The first book did not impress me that much and I was reluctant to pick up the second. When I was in need of a quick entertaining read I picked it up and I liked it way better. I only need to read the last book in the series now.

5. The Girl Who Played With Fire(Millenium by Stieg Larsson)
All the books in this trilogy are good.

6. The Wise Man's Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss)
Another series that made me scared of reading the sequel because I loved the first book so much. But there are so many things happening and new things introduced that it was as much a pleasure to read as the first.

7. Payment in Blood (Inspector Lynley by Elizabeth George)
The Inspector Lynley series is one of my favorites. I read all 17 available books and cannot wait for the next one to come out. As with all series with this many books I like the one better than the other but I always enjoy reading them.

Great list! Have I mentioned how excited I am for the third novel in Harkness' All Souls trilogy? I'm so happy that the second novel was just as great as the first novel :)

The Wise Man's Fear is still sitting on my shelf, waiting to be read. I think I'm going to have to re-read the first novel before reading it though, a lot of the details are hazy to me now, lol

It's such a LONG wait for the last book in the All Souls Trilogy! I am dying to read the ending! I can't believe I forgot about Living Dead in Dallas! I love this series as well, although I am only up to the 6th book right now. I agree that the first book wasn't totally impressing but the second redeemed the series. And totally agree with the Millenium trilogy, wonderful series, it would be hard to choose a favorite!

I want the third book in the All Souls Trilogy too. They say it will be 2014 so not that far away if I take into consideration how long I probably have to wait for the third book in the Kingkiller chronicles.

It's always interesting to read a series and see which books are the strongest. Some of my favorites series are The Magicians by Lev Grossman and the Thursday Next books by Jasper Fforde.
