Review: Het Rosie Project, Graeme Simsion

Het Rosie Project, Greame Simsion
Don Tillman, professor of genetics, has never been on a second date. He is a man who can count all his friends on the fingers of one hand, whose lifelong difficulty with social rituals has convinced him that he is simply not wired for romance. So when an acquaintance informs him that he would make a “wonderful” husband, his first reaction is shock. Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and he embarks upon The Wife Project. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which he approaches all things, Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical—most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver.
Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent—and on a quest of her own. She is looking for her biological father, a search that a certain DNA expert might be able to help her with. Don's Wife Project takes a back burner to the Father Project and an unlikely relationship blooms, forcing the scientifically minded geneticist to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie—and the realization that love is not always what looks good on paper.

Graeme C. Simsion is a New Zealand born Australian author, screen-writer, playwright and data modeller. He recently won the 2012 Victorian Premier's Unpublished Manuscript Award for his book, The Rosie Project.
Prior to writing fiction he was an information systems consultant and wrote two books and several papers about data-modelling.

No serious... I loved it. Don Tillman is such a great lovable character an the way he approaches his problems is fun. His choices often make sense and all can be explained with logic. There have been numerous moments in the book I had to laugh out loud. The story is cute and hearth warming.
The story is focused on Don and his life. Aware he has different idea's than most people how social interaction and emotion work it becomes clear very fast how hard it is for him to adjust and understand the emotional response to practically everything. The character is real and everything makes sense. I did not see any moment in the book that Don did not feel real or that there was a flaw in how he reacted to things. This made it so easy to cheer for him. I liked Rosie a lot too. She gives him a chance but does not accept all his quirks and expects things from Don that obviously challenge him within certain boundaries. I would have loved to know more about her feelings and reaction to things but that is out of curiosity more than that it was missing in the story.

Sounds like the Sheldon Cooper character on Big Bang Theory, who is always hilarious. So the book is probably truly lol.
