Armchair BEA: About children's and young people books

Today's genre topic is children's literature and everything for the little and not so little people. This is a big group including the Young Adult genre. I love to read children's books. Even now I still like to pick up the books I enjoyed in my childhood and re-read them. Some of the more regular visitors of my blog have seen a few of my favorite titles already.

HARRY POTTER.. I am pretty sure Harry is going to be on everyones list today. I did a re-read of the whole series in February and enjoyed it so much that I felt like starting over as soon as I was done with the last book.

Practically everything by THEA BECKMAN. She is a Dutch author and unfortunately not a lot of her work has been translated. This is sad because she writes very interesting books on various topics. Her best known work is Crusade in Jeans which has been translated but I really love her series on De Toekomsttrilogie (The Future trilogy) and the De Honderdjarige Oorlog (The Hundred Years' war). Both are series of three books for age 11 - 14 and they address several serious issues that people can run into in their lives. Plus the stories are very good. I think I am going to re-read these soon.

Another favorite author ROALD DAHL. I love Matilda (obviously), Charlie and the BFG. These where books read to me by teachers in class at first. They where always gone from the library too. If you wanted to read them you had to ask the librarian.

As you can see I do not list a lot of YA books. I am not much of a YA reader. Occasionally one comes to my attention and I read them but I often notice I do not enjoy them that much. Truth to be told. I picked up a few of them combined with supernatural or dystopian theme which is not really my thing either.

My favorite YA book to date is anything from the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. LOVE It!

Ah, yes Harry :) I love those books so much! And I sorta remember reading Thea Beckmans books, but I think I did so in basisschool, so it's a long time ago... After that I went straight on to 'grown-up' books I guess.
I did very much love Roald Dahl's books as well and I adored Monica Furlong's Heksenkind en Juniper, I bought those a while ago :)

Omg, The BFG - I haven't thought about that book in YEARS, that was one of my favorites when I was in gradeschool. :)

Oh no, never ask me to recommend a book, I get way too carried away because I don't know how to limit myself! (Also, I'm never 100% sure what someone's interested in so I end up over-compensating!)

For fantasy, have you tried the Daughter of Smoke and Bone books by Laini Taylor? or recently I really enjoyed another Fantasy, The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson. And of course I like to recommend Isobelle Carmody any chance I get! ;)
