The Fifth Beatle is the untold true story of Brian Epstein, the visionary manager who discovered and guided the Beatles - from their gigs in a tiny cellar in Liverpool to unprecedented international stardom. Yet more than merely the story of "The Man Who Made the Beatles," The Fifth Beatle is an uplifting, tragic, and ultimately inspirational human story about the struggle to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. Brian himself died painfully lonely at the young age of thirty-two, having helped the Beatles prove through "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" that pop music could be an inspirational art form. He was homosexual when it was a felony to be so in the United Kingdom, Jewish at a time of anti-Semitism, and from Liverpool when it was considered just a dingy port town.

When I first saw this comic I was like YES, I love the music period, I love the Beatles and lets face it Epstein had an eye for musicians. Though it was mentioned in the synopsis that his drug abuse and homosexuality would be mentioned in the story as part of his struggle with life I had hoped it would have been less prominent. I had hoped it would be more on the music. I felt as if the fact that Epstein had to struggle so much to get the Beatles in the right position was a background story.
The graphic style throughout most of the book has a caricature approach. There is a wide variety in graphics you can go from very dark and intimidating to bright and there are a few pages done by other artists which I did not always enjoy that much. There are various pages where the dialogue is left out in favor of telling the story trough images but I did not always catch the message in these.
