Top Ten Tuesday: Book recommendations!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly hosted by The Broke and Bookish. Every week the girls from the Broke and Bookish come up with a subject and I will try to find 10 results combined with that weeks topic.

This weeks topic is recommendations to a certain person. I hardly ever feel comfortable telling people what to read. I often pick up books people love and end up not loving it so I am aware that what I love might not be loved by other people. Every holiday my other half asks me to pack some books for him and people at work often ask me what they need to pick up next. I usually end up naming some books I really liked and tell them to see if it is something for them. My Top Ten to go to list with recommendations is filled with my own favourites.
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
I am not the biggest fantasy reader. I have problems with the often alternate universes and different looking world lay outs. This book was entertaining and not disturbing at all when it comes to that. I advice this to people who like things like Harry Potter but want something more adult and start to look scared when you say Lord of the Rings.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
I loved this book but it is hard to recommend it to people because it hangs on taste I think. It is something you will like or not but at least I told them it is nice and might be worth the chance.
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
I loved this book and the search and investigation and puzzle in it. If people tell me they like historical fiction and mystery/ thriller I usually push this one.
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
This one has just been released and I just feel everybody should read it. Even though the tone trough the book is light and it is an easy read the subject is very interesting and thought provoking.
I am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes
For lovers of big books filled with secret groups and investigations
Death, The Devil and the Goldfish by Andrew Buckley
Great read if you are in need of a serious laugh. Please note never take this book serious
The Jelly Bean Crisis by Jolene Stockman
I really enjoyed this book. The book is a great holiday read and brings some light in dark days. Not to heavy in tone but still it makes you think about making choices in life.
The Book Thief by Markus Zuzak
I love to read books on the second world war and I think the way this book is set up makes it a great read. It is a book about books which even makes it better. If people like war books this is one of the first that I will throw at you.
The Night Rainbow by Claire King
This is a very specific book and it will probably not be pulled out all the time when people ask me for nice reads for summer days or holiday. Still if I see a chance I will try to push this one. The story is sad and sweet and touching.
The Thomas Lynley books by Elizabeth George
I am a big fan of this series and if you drop you like mysteries and England I will push these books in your hands!!

Gosh I've been wanting to read The Night Circus for months, but haven't gotten around to buying it yet. Fantastic list!

I've had The Night Circus forever and I should really read it. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I will give it a try. The same goes for The Book Thief!

I also get nervous giving recommendations... I usually ask them what was the last book they really loved and see if I can think of something similar. Usually works unless they say "Fifty Shades of Grey" and then I have to say, "Sorry, I don't think we can be reading buddies." ;-)

I only ever feel confident recommending books to my sister as I know her tastes incredibly well. I am going to look up The Jelly Bean Crisis. It looks good!

I have The Name of the Wind on my long list of books I want to read. You describe it so well. It's great when a book can take place in another world without distracting the reader from the story.

Great list! Yay for a number of titles on this list (The Name of the Wind, The Rosie Project, etc.). Will have to check out some of the other titles on this list, like I Am Pilgrim (sounds like something my mum might enjoy :))

I'm ashamed. Just realized I read merely two books off your list and didn't even know any of the other ones! However, that also means there are loads to add to my reading list :) By the way, I can only recommend The Book Thief, as well (and I should have! forgot... :/). Such a strong, amazing, unique novel!

Lovely list! I've also been handing out recommendations for The Rosie Project ever since I read it -- it just makes me so happy! I see a few here that I love, and I guess that means I should look into all the rest as well. Thanks for the recommendations!

The Night Circus is one I recommend all of the time. It's just such a beautiful read. It makes me want to wear all black and white with just a splash of red.

Great list! Yeah, The Night Circus isn't for everyone. I really disliked it, though I know I'm in the minority. It's an atmospheric book that just wasn't my cup of tea.
